Vile Cynic - "Agony" (EP) Review

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

Vile Cynic is an up and coming metal band from Chicago, Illinois, blending death metal and thrash together and bending it to make their own, unique sound. On August 1st of this year, they released their second EP "Agony", a 4 track monster that will leave your body bruised and bleeding from the one person pit you will create.

Below is a quick sample of the heaviness and brutality, check out the links at the bottom of the review to listen to the full album.

"Blood Eagle" is the perfect song to run into battle too, an invigorating guitar intro coupled with pounding drums to get the adrenaline coursing through your veins. The articulation of the vocals are absolutely brilliant, each word is audible while keeping the intensity of the screams intact. Looking to the instruments, the guitar and drums are in perfect sync and hit together to form a wall of sound that will have your head snapping back and forth with your face twisted into a frown of pure disgust, the highest honor a riff can get in death metal.

The EP finishes with the absolute banger "An End to Agony". Even though it seems aptly named being the anchor track, the almost 6-minute song is filled to the brim with guitar riffs, face-smashing drums, insane vocals, and bass lines, leaving everything on the table. Each shift the song takes is even better than the last, mixing what could have been 5 other songs into one. Even though it may sound chaotic, the track progresses beautifully, nothing sounding out of place or forced, sitting as a testament to the musical prowess that Vile Cynic has.

If you are a fan of Lamb of God, Dissection, or Pantera, you need to drop everything and listen to this album.
