Originating in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Polyhedra is a five-piece band that released a monster of a self-titled album at the beginning of this month. Each of the five tracks showcases the blood, sweat and tears that the band poured into creating this masterpiece.
The EP begins with “Infernus Machina”. A soothing, clean guitar bringing you into the album, the drums stacking on top of the riff right before the heavier distorted guitar takes over. The timing of the intro will have you swaying before all hell breaks loose and the vocals smash your face in. The screams range from highs to lows, the instruments providing the perfect background to the demonic vocals. The sporadic drums and guitar will make your neck snap, a perfect representation of how heavy a core band can be.
Coming in as the second track is “All American Snuff”. Starting immediately, the guitar riff drags you in while the vocals and the drums throw you around. The song drops the pace with a very melodic and beautiful guitar ballad, and right as you begin to drift away, the distortion and calculated chaos returns to pull you from the respite. The main guitar riff of the song is absolutely brilliantly placed within the song, and if it doesn’t get you on your feet, nothing will.
“Subconscious Dreamscape” continues the melodic mathcore that has been perfected within the last two songs. The intricacy of the instruments is absolutely stellar, with the vocals adding the icing to the extreme metal cake that anyone reading this will devour. Polyhedra’s dedication andpassion for music seeps through this song and will inspire many to pick up music themselves.
“Devourer” stands tall as the fourth song, setting the tone with ambient guitar. The beginning vocals on top of the guitar send chills throughout the body, and the heaviness of the track will absolutely blow the mind. The pace of the song switches between fast and slow but keeps the heavy tones of the guitar and drums. The vocals match perfectly, keeping pace with the both the blistering riffs and the deep chugging.
The final slot on the EP is held by “Sentience”, riding the line between chaos and order. The eerie atmosphere created by the introduction can be heard throughout the song, adding depth and allowing you to listen to the song hundreds of times without hearing everything. The drums are absolutely killer on this track, the control between blast beats and fills is incredible, creating the perfect foundation for the vocals and guitar to shine.
This EP is a must for your collection if you are a fan of Within Destruction, Iscariot or Shadow of Intent.
