"From the soaring harmonies, the killer mix, good guitar riffs & good drum fills; this is an overall well-composed track that you should definitely check out."
- Matthew Shegich (Burn The Adversary)
Melodic metalcore collective Our Shadows, formed in 2015, hailing from Chicago/ Rhode Island have returned from their intermissive hiatus with a crushing new single going by the name “Goodbye”. A song covering the turbulence of love, loss, and battling the contempt that comes along with it. Being no strangers to the stage, they’ve played at sold-out venues across the states supporting the likes of Sworn In, Rings Of Saturn, and Whitechapel. Associated acts: VCTMS, It Lives, It Breathes, Sheevaa. FFO: QuietKind, We Came As Romans, Neon Graves, Barriers.
From the gate, the listener is greeted by subtle ambient guitar tones, setting the mood for the track as being both melodic and cathartic, while a quick drum fill catapults the listener headfirst into a grouping of clean vox and classic metalcore chorus Esque chords accompanied by mix-filling bass and drum. "Let's talk about love and loss, the things that cause a war within my heart." Jordan Stevens grabs the listener by pairing extremely relative lyrics with catchy vocal placements. All to capture and identify certain topics for the listener and laying them out in a practical way to identify for themselves.
The instrumentals are reminiscent of their debut EP Our Shadows in terms of groove and mix. Colossal work by drummer Zach Ziomek. The chorus transitions effortlessly from its preceding verse via a classic OS drum build and vocal manipulation.
"Look me in the eyes. I won't move on. I'm seeing red time to burn this down. I can see the devil inside me, the devil inside me. I won't move on. And as the blood runs down my hands. I have no regrets."
For the love of bassdrops. 😫
Our breakdown hits low and slow to the tune of lone china. "Breathe in bleed out."
We follow the groove.
"Breathe in bleed out."
Overall massive work by guitarist Zach Wanders. Speaking in terms of tonality and production in relation to the entire mix; accenting the other instruments nicely. Pairing especially well with bassist Carter Smith's thunderous bass tone.
Our Shadows aren't new here. They've reared their head again, and you should be paying attention.
