Carnivora - "Witch City" Track/Video Review

Updated: Sep 25, 2020

"Witch City" is a brand new track recently dropped by Massachusetts-based groove/death metal band Carnivora, following the release of their last release "Bogdweller" (2019).

The video is gorgeous and forgoes a lot of the typical trappings found in countless label-driven visual productions. Punchdance Studios really know what they are doing and utilize their expansive skillset masterfully to excel and highlight just what an incredible and refreshing band Carnivora are in 2020.

"Witch City" starts off slow with a soaring vocal performance courtesy of Haydee Irizarry, who really gets to flex her vocal muscles and put her experience in bands like Widows Rite and Aversed to use here. The track is reminiscent of groove metal acts like Lamb of God but quickly transitions more into heavier territory, gradually building into a frantic and unrelentingly heavy frenzy that defies expectation, lavishly lacing death metal growls and piercing rolling thunder from the fearsome low end that the guitars from Cody Michaud and Mike Meehan.

Overall, "Witch City" is a promising start to what is assuredly going to proceed a stellar EP or a standout album. Whatever Carnivora end up doing next, one thing is for sure, we'll be

watching.
