Q&A Session With Vulsella (Dallas, Texas)

As the band states on their social media platforms " Vulsella is face & body melting metal for your listening pleasure from Dallas, Texas."

This past summers ReverbNation contest introduced us to Dallas, Texas Heavy Metal band Vulsella. The moment we heard their song " Vengeance", we knew we had one of our winners.

Here is the awesome written interview I was able to do with the full band to get to know our winners a little bit better.

How did you come up with your name and how do you pronounce it?

Burt: Looking up bands online that were not taken and started searching medical terms and came across Vulsella. The name is pronounced Vulsella. [vul-sel´ah] which means surgical forceps with serrated, clawed, or hooked blades.

How did you guys meet each other and when did you guys officially become a band?

Brady: I knew Brandon from a previous band we were both in named Fallen South. I attended one of the ATR shows and Brandon came up to me and asked if I wanted to do something a little heavier and so we all got together to see what our sound would be. We have been jamming for about a year now.

Who designed your logo?

John Fossum a.k.a. Carcass John.

For someone who has never heard your music before, how would you describe your sound?

It is a blend of all extreme metal genres. Every person that ever hears us tells us differently about what they hear. Most people commonly ask if it is the new Lamb of God .

What was the first song that the band ever wrote together?

Vengeance.

How is the metal scene in Dallas?

Burt: It is like a roller coaster, the scene has its ups and downs, and unfortunately right now it would seem it is on its downward spiral. We hope it picks up back soon. With losing a lot of good venues over the years and because of that the scene has spread out over the

tri-county areas of Dallas/Denton/Fort Worth.

Are you currently recording?

Burt: We are currently working on the logistics of all that. Hoping to be within this next year. What do you find to be most challenging in the band's writing process?

Brady: Remembering what we did without recording it. But when it is an “on” day it flows out of all of us.

What is your favorite song that you have written?

Brady: Our song titled “Stay”

What has been your favorite venue to play in your home state?

Trees in Deep Ellum (downtown Dallas)

Have you guys gone on any tours?

No, we have not been on tour yet but would love to go to Michigan first.

Can you tell us about any embarrassing stage moments that you’ve had?

Brady: When we were in Haltom city the band started yelling for me to come onto the stage and I was supposed to come on a few seconds into the song and some forgot and got worried I wasn’t coming to the stage. They were panicking and I was on the side wing saying I am right here. We all had a laugh about it after.

What has been the craziest show you have played?

10th annual Texas Death Metal festival with Prophecy.

Have you ever had the opportunity to play with any National Acts?

Yes, with My Own Will, Prophecy, Tetrarch, From Blue to Gray, Nagazi, and Bobaflex. Just to name a few.

What advice would you give someone who wanted to start a metal band?

Stay true to your sound, vocals, and yourself. Always remember where you came from and to support your local bands.

How have you seen the band evolve since when you first got together?

Started out as a five-member band, one member had to step away to be with his new family. We have pushed forward and becoming a tighter knit group.

Where do you hope to see Vulsella be in the next year?

Still together on tour in Europe, Asia, or South America.

Thanks again to the band for getting back to me so quickly. I was thrilled that we were able to do this interview, and feature them on the show. We are looking forward to hearing more music from the band and hope they can come up to Chicago to play a show.
